On leaving school at 16, I then went to Yorkshire
Coast College, Scarborough to study Sign writing. After 2 years
I achieved my advanced City & Guilds in Sign making.
After leaving college I was brush sign writing for a few years,
producing local B&B boards etc in the Whitby area. As time
went on the demand for brush sign writing was beginning to fall
as the production for Vinyl Sign making was increasing.
Along with my dad who also holds his Advanced City & Guilds
in Sign work (in 1964 he was equal 1st in the north east of
England northern counties advanced sign work) in 1996 we both
decided to form the company of "Vinyl Signs of Whitby"
and move on to vinyl sign making. These signs are produced with
the aid of a computer.
This all happened 8 years ago where we started to give a full
sign service of lettering of vehicles, signboards, shop fascias
and even banners.
In the year of 2004 a lot of exciting things happened. The month
of May brought our entry to the British Sign Industry Awards
highly rated throughout the UK. Then in August we moved onto
"Digital Sign Printing", along with our traditional
vinyl cut sign making, because of the growing demand for full
colour photographic images becoming more popular within signage.
